ASHES AND SHADOWS

Posted: April 9, 2012 in Uncategorized

so, for you who don’t know and love Ashes, here’s the plot: (beware of spoilers afterwards!)

It could happen tomorrow . . .

An electromagnetic pulse flashes across the sky, destroying every electronic device, wiping out every computerized system, and killing billions.
Alex hiked into the woods to say good-bye to her dead parents and her personal demons. Now desperate to find out what happened after the pulse crushes her to the ground, Alex meets up with Tom—a young soldier—and Ellie, a girl whose grandfather was killed by the EMP.

For this improvised family and the others who are spared, it’s now a question of who can be trusted and who is no longer human.

So now I’ll rant!!
Just entered a FAB giveaway for Shadows! (but I’m new here so I don’t know how to comment :( Mundie Mom’s Blog if you’re interested! ) so anyway, i hope i win—-that book GRABBED ME. though i must say (even as i hate myself for being “team” anyone) that i am SO. TOTALLY. TEAM TOM! Chris can just jump off a cliff. I mean, I like him, but i got attached to Tom, you know? I have an emotional devotion to him, and Alex should too! And after all he did for her! GAH! all Chris does is stand around smelling like fruit! Well, there’s my rant for the day. See you next time I get a heartwrenching cliffhanger and have to wait until OCTOBER to find out what happens!!!!!!!!!

This is from my other blog: http://wrappedhelically.blogspot.com/

So, my friend is letting me borrow this series, 2 at a time, called the Gaslight Mysteries by Victoria Thompson. They’re a Victorian series about this midwife named Sarah Brandt who helps an Irish cop solve murder mysteries. But they aren’t just any mysteries-they mostly occur in the slums and poorer regions, so they are close to unsolvable. That’s what makes them great; they’re so unorthodox you can’t even guess who did it (not that I ever get it right anyway)! So yeah, I’m on like the 6th or 7th of those.

In other news, specifically scifi books that I adore,

1. Maximum Ride 8 does not come out until August. I HATE YOU, JP! I was supposed to get it in February!

2. Escape from Furnace 4: Fugitives, comes out February 28, 2012, 6 months AHEAD of schedule. Props to AGS! Unfortunately this is the US version, and i think the UK one came out in 2010. phooey.

3. Lorien Legacies 3 “THE POWER OF NINE” come out August 30, 2012, right on schedule! I love Number 9. He’s amazing!

I found something…

Posted: November 29, 2011 in Uncategorized

I found something that said get more traffic, so I’m going to publish this random thing to see if it comes up again. Thanks for being patient with me!

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater. I’m telling everyone I know about it, and it’s fantastic. Here’s the summary:

It happens at the start of every November: the Scorpio Races. Riders attempt to keep hold of their water horses long enough to make it to the finish line. Some riders live. Others die.

At age nineteen, Sean Kendrick is the returning champion. He is a young man of few words, and if he has any fears, he keeps them buried deep, where no one else can see them.

Puck Connolly is different. She never meant to ride in the Scorpio Races. But fate hasn’t given her much of a chance. So she enters the competition — the first girl ever to do so. She is in no way prepared for what is going to happen.

So, yeah, that’s the lame summary. Basically, I wouldn’t tell you what all happens because that would be spoilers, but I want everyone of the people that reads this blog to at least look up this books. It WILL make your life better. By the way, I still have the RoT books laying out on my dresser. They are not forgotten!

I was also thinking that if I ever get some readers, I want you to send me what your favorite books are and I would like to help you find some books you’d like. If you’re willing to try it out, leave a comment for me!

Adios, mis amigos!

So, I totally just ate my way through the last of the River of Time books….and it MADE my LIFE. I’m not going to tell you why, because that would be spoilers, but let’s just say I was breathing hard and I was in the middle of my living room yelling and almost passed out a few times. No joke!!

Well, speaking of, I’m too lazy to find the rest of those Waterfall Wednesday discussions, so I’ll just tell you what I think–

They are amazing. Too amazing to analyze.

And I leave you with that!

So, If I have any readers (which I doubt) I want you to tell me your fav book so that I can read them and give you my opinion! Let ‘em rip! Also, check out the blog Football Is For Girls. It’s my fave!

Waterfall Wednesdays!

Waterfall Wednesdays are the reason I started this thing, so here goes!

http://www.tinasbookreviews.com/2011/08/waterfall-wednesdays-read-along-event.html

Discussion Questions for Chapters 1-61. Waterfall opens with the introduction of Gabi, shes depressed, a little angry and is dealing with feelings of loneliness. Are you connecting with her this soon in the novel? Do you see things you like or dislike?

From the beginning, I get Gabi. She hates her new location, and she really doesn’t want to be there. I love that she doesn’t get weepy, though. She takes her kicks and moves on-and it leads to a great adventure!

2. Gabi gets to time travel back to 14th Century Italy- The Dark Ages in its prime. Is there anytime in history that fascinates you and would you travel back if you could?

After reading waterfall, 14th century Italy! But no, I would love to go to the 1800s or maybe the French Revolution. They’re both amazing and the French revolution would be scary but awesome. Vive la revolution!

3. Most of the men, including Marcello have a very set opinion about a woman’s place. Gabi gets manhandled a bit in these first few chapters, and even gets asked if shes a witch. The men are shocked when Gabi rides a horse like a man and shimmies down the castle walls. What do you think of mens mentality back then? Gentlemanly, chauvinistic, simple-minded?

I think the gentlemanly, chivalrous part is amazing, but it might get old after a while. Their idea that women can’t do anything would irritate me, but being simple-minded isn’t really a bad thing. They wouldn’t always be strainning for the newest toys or anything.

4. When Gabi becomes a part of this era, the people are immediately intrigued but suspicious of her. Many judge her by her difference. Do you think this is fair? Have you ever been in a situation where you felt like an outsider or that others were misjudging you?

It’s totally not fair! Just because she’s from “Normandy” doesn’t mean she’s a freak! Even though they do think it’s weird that she likes doing things for herself. I’ve been in that situation before, and it’s no fun at all. It really makes me sorry for others when they have the same issue.

5. What do think the coolest thing would be about living in the Dark Ages? What would be the worst?

They best part would be living in castles, chivalrous guys, and said guys defending my honor from scurrilous rouges like Lord Paratore! The worst would be no showers and no medicine-there were a LOT of things that could kill you back then.
